Affectionately known as TeamHood, this mother-daughter trio pride themselves on living, working, and serving amongst the community they serve.
Marcia-(r), brings her inspiration and intergenerational leadership. Ebony-(c), shares her love of the environment and advocacy work. While Erika-(l) shines in public health and grassroots engagement. Syatt youth grow to become leads in the organization based on experience and a fundamental practice of giving back. Collectively, Syatt provides evidence-based programming for youth & adults.
Syatt recognizes the adverse legacy people of color have faced in America. It is our VISION that youth and adults experience a world where they know they belong and feel empowered. Syatt's MISSION is to support its community through culturally relevant programming in the natural and built environment.

Winter Activities
Yes, we go out in the snow! Our winters are cold, but our program offerings are fire. Embrace winter sports like never before and join us on the slopes to either try-it or dominate the mountain (or hill), because that’s what we do! We ski in our backyard in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
- Skiing and Snowboarding
- Full program, 6 weeks of youth ski instruction
- School and community field trips
- “Syatt-Try-It” Session for any-aged newbie. You just may like it and grow to love it!

U Matter Institute
This dope program is designed for rising high school students. It has a collegiate feel because the youth drive the lessons & activities. But just like college, you ain’t quite grown yet. So there’s plenty of guidance to help cultivate this ultimate civic engagement and study abroad experience. We'll take a culturally relevant deep dive into the history, culture, and future success of minorities through a global perspective focusing on sustainable efforts across the environment.
Youth participatory action research & empowerment. Core curriculum includes:
- How does our history shape our beliefs/actions today?
- Concentration: African Diaspora
- The Right To Vote: Civic engagement & landmark outcomes
- Culture across countries…placed-based strategies
- Innovative dissemination & recommendations
- Semester long project includes travel component, virtual experience & dissemination
GBO-Get Black Outside
You’re not sure why but there’s something about what you read, saw, or maybe heard from a friend that’s piqued your interest to join a GBO outing. You’re thinking, am I seriously about to kayak the Cuyahoga? Hold up, hold up, we’re going on a canoe, at night? Skiing? In that weather? But yet you’re compelled to make sure your presence is there to check items off of your bucket list. No worries, we got you!

Cleveland is nestled within northeast Ohio and perched on the shores of Lake Erie. We have accomplished sports teams, world class healthcare organizations, top research and academic institutions, but like other major cities across the nation, we suffer from systemic racism. A diverse, yet segregated, city can often lead to many disparities and inequities for low income minority groups. While recognizing that there is a large philanthropic community and many initiatives designed to attempt to equal the playing field, there are often communities who are never a part of the planning process. Hoodwink Holiday
Typically a road trip experience, but we’ll hop on a plane, train, or boat to get us to our destination! This action packed experience is not for the faint of heart. We’re usually driven by one motto: If not now, when? Life is way too short for coulda, shoulda, woulda’s and it is up to you to decide to git er done! If you’re limited on time, funds, and experience, travel with Hoodwink. We maximize dollars when needed and use every minute of the day to stomp through the local history, culture, and natural wonders of any destination on this planet.
Our History
Syatt, founded in 2009, grew from a desire to expose youth to challenging skilled sports. During the winter of 2010, we took youth to a local ski resort for a series of ski lessons. At the end, we received an overwhelming response, “What’s next…?”
Inspired by our former First Lady Michelle Obama, we were compelled to build a program that unveiled opportunities & activities for youth and adults.
